Program
Annual (Biennial) Congress
The Congress is the most important event of the organization. Its main purpose is to provide academic space through paper presentations in specific panels and workshops. It is also a forum for the Business Meeting there the Executive Secretary of the ASIA presents his/her annaul report and takes cognizance of feedback and resolutions that determine policy direction.
The Congress endorses the democratically elected Executive Committee which also finds it expedient to meet and deliberate on policy issues.
* Annual Meeting
(1) The principle of one conference per year will be followed.
(2) The five-year rotation of the conference venue among China, Japan, Korea, India, Iran, Vietnam will continue as the general rule, with flexibility within each five-year-cycle when necessary.
(3) The organizer of the annual meeting of a given year shall be approved by the Working Committee.
(4) The Registration fees and the size of annual meetings are determined by the organizer of the year.
Workshops
ASIA workshops are conducted over a period of one or two days. Proceedings from these works will be released as an edited book bya renowned academic publishing house. The workshop content mut reflect an attempt to generate theoretical knowledge and practical applications.
Research Programs
ASIA hosts several research programs, which are designed to institutionalize semiotic research activities in Asia-related human and social sciences throughout Asia. Main programs will be as follows:
History of Asian Cultures: its genealogical roots and evolution
Asian Arts: its iconography and its visual semiotics
Media History of Asia:Past, Present, and Future
Asian Environmental Humanities: Semiotic contribution to the ecological and environmental studies of Asia
Pop Cultures of Asia: origin, evolution, structure (K-Pop for instance)
Asian Thoughts of Semiotics in a large view
Asian Symbolism: its semiotic dimensions related to its representations , its performativity, its materiality
Publication Services
The ASIA also will offer members of the association to publish their scholarly work in its endorsed journal, The Journal of Asian Semiotics. Members of the Executive Committees are either on their editorial boards or among their editors.
